Care Homes – Crisis or Opportunity

Care home owners and operators are facing immense challenges with ever decreasing funding streams and rising staff costs and regulatory demands. According to a recent Guardian report, since 2010 over 380 care homes have ceased operation. The squeeze is being felt in particular by the smaller operators which represent over 55% of the industry.

Against this backdrop is the reality of the projected demand. There are over 430,000 people in care homes and more than 11 million people aged 65 or over in the UK. According to recent Dementia UK reports the demand for dementia care is forecast to increase to 940,000 by 2021 and 1,735,087 by 2051 and increase of 38% over the next 15 years and 154% over the next 45 years.

These figures translate into a pressing need for new facilities nationally which have to be of a higher space and service standard to deliver the necessary care with dignity. The reality is that in order to for care budgets to go further people need to remain in their homes for longer, with Care in the Community support, and move to care homes later in life. For this to be effective more houses will require modification and adaptions to suit ageing care needs.

A new logo for new impetus

It is not just a whim for M E Architects to have evolved its name and brand to become Esmail Architects

Mahmood was keen to take his business to the next level but was unsure about whether to focus on the residential or commercial sectors.

Rob Harrison of Glued met Mahmood at a Get Set for Growth* seminar on Marketing Strategy. Their conversation sowed the seeds of what has become the new Esmail Architects.

With the help of Glued, Esmail Architects have discovered that getting to the next level will not be about promoting the sector specialised in. Indeed the most persuasive proposition is how what is delivered matters rather than who or what is served.

A narrative of Mahmood’s path to where he and his business has now teased out the valuable differences that Esmail Architects offer its customers. These have been expressed in the new brand identity and articulated in a new web site.

Mahmood said “Interestingly it is the impact the process has had on my self-awareness, pride and enthusiasm that is perhaps more notable. It is great to have symbolism and expression for that in my new brand and web site.”

Rob Harrison was keen to point out that “… Mahmood’s new logo has been evolved from his original identity as have some of the themes in the web site. It was important to bring existing contacts and clients with us rather than neglect them.”
